High School Teaching Program
Our course for teachers begins Saturday, June 6th.
At Foothills we are passionate about sharing the sport we love with others. This includes other professionals in the teaching world!
During this 4-week course (which meets each Saturday through the month of June), teachers will learn the basics of one of the three fencing weapons: the epee. This includes fundamental footwork, bladework, etiquette, and rules, all while having fun and working together with other teachers from an array of schools across the upstate.

We also will have J.L. Mann High School coaches assisting throughout the month, guiding their peers.

Whether you are interested in finding a fun new hobby, looking to stay in shape for the summer, or interested in starting a new club at your school, fencing may very well be the sport for you!

Information for H.S. Students and Parents
Are you a student or parent wanting to introduce the sport of fencing to your school? Then Foothills Fencing Academy may be able to help! High School Fencing is taking off across the state, and some of the biggest fencing leagues in the country are just across state lines (N.C. and G.A.). We would love to assist more upstate schools in their own journey to start fencing programs.
Foothills can provide:

1. Skills for teachers wanting to lead high school clubs
2. Direction on purchasing equipment and sizing
3. Advice for fundraisers and sponsors to assist with the cost of starting a new program
4. Connections with other high school coaches from across the state

Many of these services would come at no cost to you, all you need to do is reach out and we would love to help!
Frequently Asked Questions
What should fencers wear?
Fencers should wear long pants, athletic shoes, and a t-shirt. Each fencer will be fitted with a fencing jacket, glove, mask, and chest protector for females.
Is fencing a competitve sport?
Yes! Foothills students travel throughout the southeast and the country to compete on the highest levels. Not only does Foothills host competitive events, but there is also a thriving competitive scene locally, regionally, and nationally!
Must I be interested in starting a H.S. club to take the course?
Of course not! We want to share our sport with as many people as possible, and we have found that teachers really enjoy it! Even if you decide not to continue after the 4-week course, we assure you that you will walk away with a valuable experience.
What is the cost of class?
The class fee for this 4 week program is $50. This includes use of all needed equipment as well as a USA Fencing trial (3 month) Membership.
Do I need to purchase equipment?
No, it is not necessary to purchase equipment. You are welcome to purchase gear, but rental equipment is included in the class fee. Each fencers’ gear is assigned to them, so that it is not shared with another student unless it has been thoroughly cleaned in between.
