The Art Of Swordfighting

 Our Coach

We are proud to have Soumeya Benslimane as a coach.  We believe her loyalty and integrity will provide a positive atmosphere for the academy.

Soumeya began fencing at a very young age.  She earned a Bachelor Degree in Sports Methodology with a Major in Fencing from the University of Science & Sports in Algeria. Her thesis paper was written about the psychological training and physical preparation  for fencing.

Soumeya received her formal training as a  coach under the instruction of French, Russian, and Ukranian coaches & Maitres D’ Armes such as Maitre Boite, Maitre Caguard, and Maitre Rensky.  She began coaching and working as a sports advisor in her native country in 1990.

In 1996, Soumeya came to Greenville.  She began volunteering, as well as assisting with fencing in this area.  She is the present coach of the fencing club at Furman University.

While Soumeya’s education is vital, her experience makes her an excellent mentor for both young and adult fencers.  She is a coach who enjoys and relishes the time she spends teaching the art of fencing.
