COACHES

Coach CJ Maxwell

Head Coach

Coach CJ Maxwell received her professional coaching certification in 2010. Since then she has continued to coach various classes, camps, and individual students. In addition to coaching, CJ was a member and captain of the Sacred Heart University Women’s Fencing Team. CJ was named to the All Northeast Fencing Conference first team, the All-Pioneer Team, the Sacred Heart University women’s fencing rookie of the year in 2013, and was named to the C. Donald Cook Scholar-Athlete Honor Society in 2016.  During this time the team was 2014 Northeast Fencing Conference champions as well as combined NFC champions in 2014 and 2015. CJ is CPR and First Aid certified and is happy to have returned to South Carolina to be the head coach at Foothills Fencing Academy.

Coach Daniel Thompson

Assistant Coach

Coach Daniel has many years of fencing and coaching experience. He grew up with a fencing sword in his hand. During his education at Clemson University, Daniel participated in the Clemson fencing team as well as coaching the epee squad. We are happy to have him join the Foothills Team! Coach Daniel can be found teaching group classes as well as private lessons in epee, foil, and saber. Coach Daniel is CPR and first aid certified, and is also a great armorer and enjoys sharing these skills with others.

Coach Austin Maxwell

Assistant Coach & Head Trainer

Coach Austin graduated with his degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of South Carolina Upstate in 2016. He is also a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. Austin has years of experience working with high school and college athletes, as well as the general public. Alongside training, Austin also teaches side by side with his wife CJ to create a fun and engaging atmosphere for all age groups.  He is passionate about his work and loves to help individuals reach their goals. Coach Austin is CPR and first aid certified.
